Grand Slams and Base Hits
It’s okay to swing for the fences.
Everyone should aspire to do big, impactful things.
But most ball games aren’t won exclusively with homeruns. You can’t score unless you get on base, and the best way to get on base is with a single.
Don’t stand at the plate and let good pitches pass you by because it’s not the “perfect” one that you can knock out of the park. You can’t just stand there waiting for the throw that you know you can send over the fence (they don’t come labeled as such), and if you let enough “good” pitches fly past you, you’ll strike out without ever having taken a swing.
Take a swing at the ball that will get you on base. Make a solid connection with a hit that will allow you to run to First Base safely (maybe even Second) and then continue to make advances and incremental improvements to get on the board and score a point.
How do you make a connection?
You identify an opportunity and you extend yourself. You take a little risk when the situation looks good (but not waiting until it’s “perfect”).
Who knows? It might even be the winning run.
String enough of those base-hits-converted-into-points-on-the-board together and you’ll have a Hall-of-Fame-worthy career.
