Hanging Out With Your People
No matter what topic you’re interested in, there are groups of people hanging out with each other devoted to discussing that very topic.
Interested in racing Hot Wheels or Matchbox diecast metal cars?
Redline Derby Racing has you covered.
Interested in podcasting?
Circle270Media has a daily email newsletter covering every aspect of the topic.
How about bartending?
Wait… let’s make it even more specialized… MOBILE bartending!
Yep. My friend Ozeal has created a course and a social community on that very topic.
Whatever you are interested in — no matter how obscure — there is a tribe of people out there interested in the exact same thing, and they’d love to start hanging out with you!
Find a group that has gathered together into a clubs or discussion boards to talk about a topic you’re interested in and simply participate. You can “lurk” for a bit if you’re an introvert, but give yourself a deadline to stop watching and start contributing to the discussion. You don’t have to jump in with both feet, but at least leave a comment on someone else’s post or share a simple link to a helpful resource.
It’s easy to find a group you might be interested in hanging out with…
Start by searching Facebook Groups. Just enter any topic you desire into the top search box and sort by Groups.
Next, give Meetup.com a try.
It’s been around for quite a while and they specialize in a lot of in-person meetups where you can meet new friends with similar interests in the “real” world.
Are you seeking a more professional, business-focused topic? Perhaps LinkedIn Groups would be more appropriate. There are thousands of topics and sub-topics on almost any category you can think of (plenty of Podcasting Groups and even a ton of Bartending Groups.
I even found a couple groups about Hot Wheels.
