Learning from Strengths and Weaknesses
Do you learn more by studying your strengths or by studying your weaknesses?
Taking stock of your strengths allows you to build on what you are already good at. To achieve greater heights on a ladder you are adept at climbing. It allows you to specialize in an area of expertise and become a world-class expert in what you know or do best.
Being aware of your weaknesses can either serve as a guide to avoid pitfalls or act to pinpoint areas in which you can improve — which will also serve you well in becoming the best at what you do.
Building on existing strengths, or reducing your weakness in areas you feel are found wanting, are both paths to self-improvement if approached in the right manner.
It’s important not to get too cocky by only focusing on your victories, and just as important not to become overwhelmed with self doubt when analyzing your weaknesses.
No matter which side you feel will bring you the best results, remember to view the data with detached emotions. Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses without hurting your own feelings (or stroking your own ego.) You’re looking for strengths to enhance in order to continue getting better and better results, and seeking out areas in which you can make small, gradual improvements to reduce vulnerabilities where you are not as powerful.
Be truthful, be aware, and dedicate time for self-reflection and personal development.
