This Book is Deceptive!!!
When I chose “Take The Bull By The Horns” (a small 6×8 book written by Gayle Lantz) from the shelf in the bookstore, I was looking for a quick read that would help up my average of books read for the year. I flipped through it and saw that it was less than 180 pages, each ‘chapter’ was only 2 pages long and dealt with a single very specific point. I thought to myself “I ought to be able to cruise through this during the weekend” and bought it — but the darn thing completely fooled me! I found myself reading each of the short chapters at least twice, and the concepts shared by author challenged me at the end of each chapter by asking me questions that actually made me (gasp!) think about what I was reading and how it applied to ME.
The book is divided into two primary sections; the first dedicated to growing your business and the second devoted to growing yourself as a leader. Each of the sections is broken into chapters like Vision/Mission; Team Development; Strategic Focus; Skill Development; and Self Motivation. At the conclusion of each chapter you are presented with two questions that help you apply the information — a Thinking Question (printed in black ink) and an Action Question (printed in red ink.) Along the way you are presented with a “treasue chest” icon that indicates information about where to access additional resources (forms, checklists, etc.) that exist in the back of the book or can be obtained by visiting an helpful website or two.
This book gets a big “RECOMMEND” from me to any leader looking for a little introspection about their business and themselves — along with suggestions and tools to take action and improve their current situation.
