What do you want to Change?
Many people want “CHANGE”.
Many people think change is important.
Many people know change is inevitable.
And some people even embrace change.
Perhaps you’re one of them.
Do you know what you want to change?
The word Change has become a cliche.
It’s a square on your office’s buzz-word bingo card.
I am definitely one of those folks who think change is as important as it is inevitable — but it’s just as important to know what you want to change and why you want to change it.
Are there areas in your life that you know could be improved?
Sure, we all have that list.
You want to get healthy, lose weight, find love, and/or get a new job.
Are those on your list of things you want to change?
Unfortunately, wanting your weight to change isn’t specific enough to make it happen. It could actually backfire on you because most people want to lose a few pounds, but if you keep telling yourself that you wish your weight would “change”, you have to remember that gaining 5 pounds technically qualifies as “change”.
Losing weight isn’t the change you want.
Losing weight is the result you want.
In order to get the result of a lower body weight, the changes you’ll want to make will have to do with changing your diet, changing your activity level, and changing into your sweats and sneakers to take a walk around the block every night instead of sitting on your big comfy couch and just changing the channels on your television.
If you want change, be specific
- Know what you want to change and the results you want to achieve
- Know why you want to achieve those results
- Most importantly, know what you’re going to change to.
When you change an old habit, you have to replace it with a new habit.
If you want to change your poor eating habit of munching junk food, then you have to change that action into another action. Perhaps it’s changing the bag of chips to a bag of carrots. Maybe it’s changing the habit of mindless eating into mindful reading.
Change is important.
But knowing the whats and whys of changing will point the way to how you will achieve that change.
