Whitney Bishop’s Morning Meditation Nuggets
I’m really fortunate to have many creative friends and mentors to inspire me and remind me that there is always room to improve, always a project I could be publishing, and always an opportunity to be grateful (rather than grumpy).
My friend Whitney Bishop is one of these inspiring individuals I can count on to be a bright light in the world — not because she necessarily has more gifts to offer the world than you or me, but because she chooses to offer up her gifts generously (and works really hard to do so).
Whitney Bishop’s latest project is a collection of print and audio messages she’s packaged together in something she calls Morning Meditation Nuggets
Morning Meditation Nuggets is a combination of inspirational audio tracks voiced by Whitney, along with a nicely formatted text transcript of each audio track, a collection of journal prompts to get you thinking about your own feelings on the meditation themes, and a companion journal where you can record your reflections on the topic and any insights you gain from hearing Whitney share her own perspective.
I first saw Whitney announce this new set of spirit-lifting compositions in her Linkedin profile this past week. It took me about 2 minutes to click over and buy a copy for myself.
In some ways Whitney’s collection of Morning Mediation Nuggets remind me of Ben Franklin’s 13 Virtues. Franklin’s 13 Virtues was a personal development plan. It listed areas in which he wanted to improve himself. Franklin would carry a list of his 13 Virtues with him and choose one of the themes to focus on for an entire week. Each day he would make a note on the list to indicate whether or not he was victorious in his efforts to be virtuous in his selected area, and he would evaluate his progress at the end of the week. He could completely cycle through his list of 13 Virtues four times per year.
Whitney’s Morning Meditation Nugget themes are:
- My Daily Prayer
- Choice
- Praying For
- Circle of Women (i.e. Friends)
- Trusting Yourself
- Trusting The Process
- Grace
- Freedom
- Presence
- Love
- Seek and Find
- Endurance
- Water
Whitney features 14 mediation nuggets, so maybe hers is just a little bit better than Ben’s?
Like Ben’s 13 Virtues, Whitney’s Morning Meditation Nuggets are simple themes to focus on — but deep and meaningful concepts to explore.
As a matter of fact, the only thing that may be missing from Whitney’s set of Morning Meditation Nuggets is a small card that a person could carry with them to aid their focus on their chosen theme for the day or for the week.
On the other hand, the whole idea is to empower yourself — so why not make your own carry-along pocket list version? Whitney has done a lot by creating these nuggets to nudge you along, but she can’t do everything for you. For instance…
