Wiping Out Cancer
Continuing on the trend of Helpful Humor I’ve been noticing lately, I wanted to share the activity of possibly one of the funniest businesses I’ve had the pleasure to spend my money with — Dollar Shave Club.
Still the BEST commercial you’ll never see on television, these guys didn’t quit with a one-hit wonder (technically, a 13 million hit wonder and counting) after getting millions of monthly members to pay to become part of their razor blade subscription business.
In addition to humorous notes and postcards being packaged with my monthly shipment of blades (the Humble Twin thank you very much), they also developed complementary products like Dr. Carver’s Shave Butter and One-Wipe Charlies (buttwipes for men).
“Butt” Wait There’s More…
Like any good company, DSC wants to do good and give back to the community, thus they launched a campaign this month to raise awareness (and funds) to fight colon cancer. To launch National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (I know, hard to believe it’s that time of year already! It seems like I just took down the decorations from last year) Dollar Shave Club sent out a box of hilarity wrapped in somberness (or is that a box of somberness wrapped in a bow of hilarity?)
The photo below shows you the contents I received from Dollar Shave Club’s marketing team, along with a letter explaining their campaign efforts and goals, which includes donating 5% of One Wipe Charlies’ March sales to help raise money for the cause.
Some sobering facts about Colon Cancer
- Colon Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the Unites States
- Five percent of American’s will be impacted by the disease in their lifetime
- One of DSC’s goals is to raise awareness about the importance of getting a colonoscopy, because Colon Cancer is 90% curable when found early
The package’s punchline to add impact to those facts?
The box included goodies to help with the “prep time” you’ll be spending on the toilet should your doctor recommend you get a colonoscopy.
The package included:
- A package of One Wipe Charlies
- A scented candle
- Box of matches
- Book of crossword puzzles
- A “Best of Sade” CD (which includes the hit “Smooth Operator”
See?
Your company can do something worthwhile and make people smile.
You just need the right mixture of Help and Humor.
