You’ll Never Move Ahead if You’re Just Lyin’ Around
Your mane priority …er… MAIN priority might be to move ahead in your personal life and/or your career, but you’ll never make any forward progress if you’re lying around all the time.
Disagree?
You’re just lion (…er… lying…) to yourself
Newton’s First Law of Motion states that a body at rest tends to stay at rest, and a body in motion tends to stay in motion, at the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an outside force.
This basically means that if you’re lying on the couch watching Netflix, you may as well set it to autoplay because you’re probably going to keep binge watching episodes unless acted upon by an outside force (like your dog needs to go for a walk).
It also means that if you take your pup out for a stroll, you are not likely to take just a step or two out the door and quit — you’ll continue walking for a while (until you’re affected by an outside force, like it gets too dark for you to safely continue walking).
If you think about it, this law of motion can be applied to just about everything you do.
If you start scrolling through Facebook, you’ll probably continue doing it for hours. If you’re checking you’re email, you’ll keep at that task indefinitely.
To get the most benefit out of this law, why not choose things to do that will benefit you the most and move your further along your desired path of accomplishment?
- Read books that will increase your knowledge and widen your perspective
- Set appointments to meet with clients and prospects to discuss ways you can help improve their business
- Volunteer for a cause you believe in and spend time in motion while making a difference.
Thinking strategically about the things you can do to move yourself forward will help you spread your wings and take flight. Combining those positive actions with the law of motion means that once you take off, you will stay airborne for a nice long time.
